Support the Students and Families of Seattle Public Schools
The Alliance for Education raises funds and implements innovative strategies to support the students of Seattle Public Schools, with a focus on supporting students furthest from educational justice. More than 30% of the 52,000 students in Seattle Public Schools experience poverty. During the COVID-19 crisis, those students and their families have been hardest hit, from increased challenges with food, housing and other basic needs to lack of access to childcare to decreased access to ongoing education. Support the Right Now Needs Fund to drive direct basic needs support to SPS families experiencing poverty, including support for food, housing and medical care.
Seattle schools are closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year, but not all students have equitable access to remote education. School districts are working urgently to ensure all students can continue to learn. Support the Education Equity Fund to give SPS students, families and teachers the technology and access they need to continue learning during this crisis. AFE is working to raise $5M to close gaps related to continuous learning.
Help Families in North and East King County
Hopelink, which provides a network of services aimed at helping people gain stability and the tools and skills needed to exit poverty in North and East King Counties, is anticipating unprecedented demand for food as well as emergency financial assistance for eviction prevention during the COVID-19 crisis.
In addition, Hopelink centers are closed to the public and Hopelink food banks are now accepting food donations – which account for about 80 percent of the food distributed. To continue providing food to those in need, the organization must purchase all of the food included in pre-packed boxes of groceries; at a cost expected to total at least $250,000 over the next two months.
During this challenging time, we need your help to ensure we are able to continue providing stability to the most vulnerable members of our community. Donate at https://www.hopelink.org/greatest-needs or contact Josalyn Ford, Development Director, Giving jford@hopelink.org.
Immediate Help for Students and Schools
InvestED, a Washington-based education non-profit, launched the InvestED COVID-19 Student Fund to support low-income students who are being negatively impacted by the COVID-19 school closures. One hundred percent of all donations to this urgent campaign will go directly toward meeting the immediate needs of our most vulnerable students. Particular attention will focus on continuing to meet nutritional needs of students and enable remote learning. These are two urgent and critical areas that have been identified by state and local leaders where we can help. All funds for this campaign are allocated equitably based on student population and the numbers of students in the districts who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.
InvestED works with public schools to help students get to school, engage in school and graduate. We help remove some of the financial and material barriers that prevent promising young people from realizing their full potential. From the beginning, our unique model was built on trusting local educators to identify what individual students need and providing immediate help to meet those needs. We have the model, leadership, and nearly 60 years of experience and relationships statewide to effectively support students during this difficult time. Fund Child Care for First Responders and Essential Personnel
Without reliable child care, our region cannot combat this pandemic – first responders and essential personnel must have access to reliable child care to work. Child Care Resources, (the Child Care Aware affiliate of King and Pierce Counties), works to improve the quality of early childhood care in our region. Our statewide Child Care Aware Family Center is now the Child Care COVID Communications, Response and Referral Center. We are connecting families directly to child care vacancies and tracking program closures in real time, while helping child care providers and school districts adapt their care for first responders.
In partnership with child care programs such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, the YMCA of Greater Seattle and many other community programs, CCR will ensure that the child care needs of first responders and essential personnel are met and funded. Donations made to CCR through All In Seattle will be directed to families to help cover the cost of child care during this crisis.

YMCA of Greater Seattle
During the COVID-19 shutdown of fitness and recreational facilities, the YMCA of Greater Seattle is transforming its King County branches into childcare centers dedicated to serving the families of essential workers. This group includes medical providers, first responders, and other essential workers like grocery and drug store employees.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue COVID-19 Relief Fund
Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue is stepping up in this unprecedented time of disruption to provide reliable, safe and accessible childcare services for the community’s first-responders, medical professionals, as well as workers deemed essential by Governor Inslee’s ‘stay home—stay healthy’ order. BGCB is the only place that many families in our community can turn to when schools are closed.
BGCB had to postpone major fundraisers and cancel revenue generating programs. This means BGCB will very quickly lack sufficient funding to support kids through the most desperate situation we’ve ever faced. Make a gift today and help BGCB keep their doors open for children of parents working bravely during this crisis.
